Change is Inevitable

I'm going to get on my soapbox for a moment.

I really hate it when these ignorant good 'ol boys start yammering about "that's what the constituion was made for" yadda yadda yadda.

The constitution wasn't written without the expectation of it ever having to be changed. Times have changed. Society has evolved. So the rules that applied in 1776 - don't necessarily apply in 2005. Why can't some people see this?

Comments:
Why does this post remind me that Tuesday is bath day?

I have no idea. You tell me.

See, that's the problem with your consitution - written at a time of conflict with the Brits and a reflection of a society that need it to be the way it is.

If John Hancock had his pen ready to sign now I reckon it would look slightly different.

Obviously a great example of this is the bit about the right to bear arms - naturally you need this if the brits are fucking with you, but not now.

That's exactly the issue that was being debated when I thought of the post - gun control and search & seizure rights.

I have never understood our enshrining of the Constitution as an almost holy object. It was made by Men and reflected the times we were in. It is a good GUIDELINE for how government should act but not the end all be all.

PS: I knew you'd take the ugly Korean chicks side even though she grossly misrepresented herself to me.
